1. Regular Washing and Debris Removal

Use mild detergent or specifically formulated RV cleaner to thoroughly wash and clean the RV roof. Make sure you let the RV dry before you start doing any repair work or starting the resealing process.
2. Regular Inspections and Leak Checks
While washing and cleaning the roof, look for roof leaks, damaged areas and weak spots that may be requiring your attention. RV roofs are huge and there are a lot of different places where things can go wrong depending upon the number of accessories and vents you have on the roof. If you are proactive and spend time on regular inspections you may find a small problem that can cause you a small fortune if you had let it go in the first place.
3. Recoating or Resealing the RV Roof
Recoating the RV is another standard part of RV maintenance. Your RV roof will need fresh coat of Liquid Rubber every three to five years depending upon the condition of the roof. Make sure you choose a product which is compatible to use on the RV roof and that you also follow the complete application process as outlined by the manufacturer. If there are many weak spots and damaged areas then it is better to recoat the entire RV than doing spot RV roof repair.
4. Replacing Damaged Seals and Silicone Caulking
There are seams and seals all over the RV roof and they need to be properly caulked in order to prevent water and debris getting in and causing major issues down the road. You should always make sure the seals are properly caulked, intact and in a good condition and if they aren’t, they should be scrapped and replaced which is a project of few hours.
5. Checking Vents, Skylights, and Other Roof Accessories
While inspecting the roof seam and seals, you should also make a check on vents and other accessories installed on the RV roof. Make sure they are in good condition and attached properly and securely to the roof and not needing any repair or replacements. You can perform this type of inspection while cleaning the RV roof. RV roof maintenance seems like a huge task but don’t worry much of the work can be done in a single weekend.
